Expansion plans are well underway for Wakefield based dust extraction specialists, Dust Control Environmental (DCE) Ltd. The first phase of an extension to their factory at Flanshaw has certainly started with a definite wow moment!

The removal of, an inherited, old, container, at the back of the original fabrication warehouse was required for the extension build to commence. And there was only one way that the container was going to be moved – up and over the building’s roof. Faultlessly executed by the expert team from Emsley Crane Hire of Harrogate, the removal now allows DCE to forge on with the build.

The expansion of DCE’s premises is part of their continual business growth plans. Having, in the previous financial year, invested in the right people, the next obvious step is to invest in new equipment and infrastructure. This will enhance production capability, quality control, and operational efficiency.

This strategic investment also supports improved reliability for customers, giving Dust Control Environmental greater control over scheduling and production standards while enabling the business to respond more quickly to demand. The reconfiguration of the premises will also free up valuable assembly space, allowing for a more streamlined workflow and increased capacity for future growth.

April 2026 marks Dust Control Environmental (DCE) Ltd. becoming a West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services (WYMS) Advocate. Already an active supporter, DCE has benefitted already from WYMS events, networking with like‑minded manufacturing businesses across the region, championing a stronger manufacturing sector in West Yorkshire.

Case Study: Leading Kitchen Supplier Clean up with Dust Control Environmental

Introduction

TKC is one of the UK’s leading specialist suppliers of components and complete kitchens to the kitchen industry. Founded in 1989, the business employs over 150 staff and operates out of 2 purpose-built premises in Denton, Manchester. The company is focussed on ensuring that TKC’s name is synonymous with quality product, first class service and excellent value for money.

In response to growing demand for textures, TKC recently invested in a new manufacturing cell dedicated to producing ranges that enhance their kitchen offering. The process inevitably produces large volumes of wood dust and chippings, so TKC has taken proactive steps to protect its workforce, maintain smooth operations, and ensure product integrity. TKC partnered with Dust Control Environmental Ltd (DCE), specialists in industrial extraction, to design a tailored dust control system for its new facility to ensure these high standards are continually met throughout all their facilities.

Project Requirements

The new manufacturing cell demanded a dust extraction system that was both high‑performance and space‑efficient. It needed to control MFC dust, wood chips, and fine particulates produced by CNC machines. The system also had to incorporate efficient waste collection containers that were simple to empty. Crucially, dust had to be captured directly at the processing source to protect the workforce, maintain clean surfaces, and prevent an unhealthy environment.

How DCE Met the Requirements

Dust Control Environmental Ltd. supplied and installed ECO 60 dust collectors, equipped with high-efficiency, low-noise fan sets to ensure powerful yet quiet operation. The system included smooth-bore, clip-together ductwork for optimal airflow and ease of installation, which was completed on a fast turnaround to align with the delivery schedule of TKC’s new CNC machinery.

To maximise space and durability, the ECO units were installed externally and fitted with weatherproofing kits. Waste collection was streamlined through four easily accessible bins, secured with simple clamp mechanisms and fitted with sight glasses for quick visual monitoring of fill levels.

The system also features UltraFilter seamless bag technology, integrated into the ECO units.

Introduction

Growing from a small foundry to an expansive global operation, Stockton Castings, based in Stockton-on-Tees, make high integrity complex castings, catering for a wide range of industry sectors.

Stockton Castings manufacture casts in a spectrum of ferrous alloys and typical weights being between one and 1500 kilos with sand casting being part of the process. Supporting the company’s environmental and sustainability goals, a sand‑reclamation system is used to recover and reuse foundry sand after casting. The process can generate harmful respirable crystalline silica (RCS) that if uncontrolled, poses serious health risks.

Stockton Castings invested in upgrading their LEV and environmental controls in 2023, installing a bespoke dust collection system designed and supplied by industry specialists Dust Control Environmental, resulting in the elevated control of process RCS.

Below details how Dust Control Environmental met requirements and the benefits Stockton Castings experience from an enhanced dust extraction system.

Project Requirements

Efficient extraction from 3 points – Shake Out Deck, Ladder Sand Feed and Cooler Classifier.

How DCE met the Requirements

Dust Control Environmental surveyed and understood the Stockton Site requirements recommending the implementation of their Envirojet, reverse jet bag filter extraction system.

The Envirojet was installed externally with clip together ducting from the designated extraction points out to the filter inlets. Designed for a 18/20 m/sec conveying velocity to mitigate fall out of material and all installed to HSG 258 guidance and best practice. Paramount for safety, the ducting incorporates an inline spark arrestor.

The DCE Envirojet filter unit benefits from a 3mm thick steel plate modular construction supported by galvanised rolled steel section legs. It houses 90 unique oval bags with DCE Oleophobic dust release media for efficient reclamation. The fan is floor mounted.

Waste collection and removal will be facilitated via a single pyramid waste collection hopper with a rotary valve for auto discharge into bulk waste bags.

As the structure will be operating in a harsh environment, to ensure longevity, the Envirojet body is finished in a powder coating primer and textured topcoat resulting in protection of approximately 120 microns.

The installation, commissioning and training was carried out by Dust Control Environmental. They will also offer aftermarket support to Stockton Castings with LEV testing, parts and maintenance service work.

Silica Dust Control for Top Kitchen Manufacturer

Introduction

With the aim of upholding high health and safety standards and protecting their work force from Silica dust exposure, a major kitchen manufacturer partnered with Dust Control Environmental (DCE) Ltd. to upgrade their dust extraction systems.

The site specialises in Quartz Resin worktops, known for their durability, hygienic finish and high-end style. The process of cutting and finishing the worktops however produces RCS (Respirable Crystalline Silica) dust into the atmosphere which can pose serious health problems for people working within the environment if not controlled properly.

Project Requirements

The replacement of old, bag filtration, extraction units to maintain maximum extraction performance along with workplace safety and compliance.
An Energy efficient system with the ability to operate proficiently and safely in a combustible atmosphere.
To keep plant operational downtime to an absolute minimum during the new filter installation process.
Consideration to be given to the provision of easy waste removal access.
A safe, cost effective and quick method for the replacement of fan motors should it be required.

How DCE met the Requirements

Dust Control Environmental (DCE) successfully addressed their client’s needs by manufacturing and installing a DCE Envirojet W-series filter plant and duct system.

This high performance, reverse jet, bag dust collector system is engineered to efficiently handle, airborne particulates from six duct lines connected to multiple Biesse Rover CNC machines, two beam saws, a wide belt sander, various small process machines and a network of 24 plug - on tool extract points. The design ensures optimal particulate control across all connected equipment.

It incorporates 6 x 22kW cascading fans, which, by utilising strategically placed pneumatic dampers and E-Performance monitoring, adjusts fan speeds, or switches off fans, based on the number of operational lines. This feature delivers significant energy savings and cost reductions.

The installation was carried out on a newly laid concrete pad positioned beside the original dust collectors, ensuring continuous operation for the client until the switch to the new Envirojet-W dust extraction. DCE integrated a monorail system and a jib crane into the filter plant to aid quick and safe fan motor removal.

To address restricted access for waste removal, a screw fed system was designed to feed waste products back inside the building into a sealed one-ton bulk bag. This system triggers an alarm when full, ensuring efficient waste management.

Additionally, given the combustible atmosphere in which the Envirojet W extraction and ducting system operates, DCE included a spark detection system along the ducting for enhanced safety.

Benefits

The implementation of the Envirojet W –Series dust extraction and ducting system will provide the manufacturing plant with the following benefits:

Effective Waste Management: The new screw fed system makes waste removal both quicker and safer with the sealed bulk bag collection option.

George Sykes, whose dedication and technical growth has led him to achieving P601 certification and the promotion to LEV Test Engineer within the Aftermarket Department. Heritage Railway Protects Workshop with ECO Dust Collector from Dust Control Environmental

North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is a major heritage railway which runs through the heart of the North York Moors National Park.Widely regarded as one of the best-preserved heritage railways.

Grosmont is home to the engine sheds and workshops, and the station facilities at Pickering house the Carriage & Wagon Department. Carrying out major overhauls and body repairs the workshop undertakes woodworking and joinery activities. This requires the installation of dust extraction to protect the work force and environment from airborne wood dust and shavings that are a result for the process.

Engaging with dust extraction specialists, Dust Control Environmental, North Yorkshire Moors Railway commissioned the installation of an ECO 30 for the efficient control of the process wood dust.

Project Requirements

The NYMR woodworking shop at Pickering station required, for environmental compliance and health and safety regulations, to collect and control wood particulates and dust at source. Specific machine points where dust was generated were the Planner Thicknesser, Cross Cut Saw, Band Saw and Disc and Belt Sander.

For space and safety, the dust control system would need to be positioned exterior to the facilities and so to comply with ATEX requirements. The footprint available for installation was somewhat limited.

The dust waste was to be collected in a receptacle that was big enough and easy enough to collect and dispose of the waste.

How Dust Control Environmental Met the Requirements

The perfect dust control system to provide all the requirements for this specific project was the ECO 30 dust collector, manufactured and installed by Dust Control Environmental.

With its compact footprint, the ECO unit was easily accommodated on the available concrete pad outside the workshop. The dust filter housing is constructed from galvanised steel, providing robust weather resistance and unit longevity. Anti-static UltraFilter seamless polyester filter socks were installed to effectively and safely capture wood dust and fibres.

High-capacity waste hoppers feeding 2 waste collection drums with removable liners were incorporated into the dust extractor design.

Inside the workshop, collection points on each of the specific machines were supplied with brand new extraction hoods each connected via quick clip, smooth bore ducting, installed to HSG 258 guidance and best practice. The connected ducting feeds back and out to the externally positioned ECO filter.

A DCE Zeph-Air duct flow indicator was installed and Commissioning was carried out by DCE’s certified P604 engineer. Training was given to those NYMR staff required to operate the ECO 30 Dust Filter.

New Case Study - Lambson Innovate Make LEV Test Compliance Easy with DCE

Introduction

For more than half a century, Lambson Innovate has been at the forefront of British manufacturing. They produce precision – engineered products for a diverse range of industries with expertise in bonded components, profiles and panels.

Lambson’s manufacturing processes inevitably produce airborne particulates that the company vehemently control with a number of dust control (LEV) systems. To maintain the proficiency and compliance of the LEV systems, they partner with Dust Control Environmental Ltd (DCE) for a testing and maintenance service package.

Project Requirements

With every product made to order, a mixture of processes are involved in the manufacturing of Lambson Innovate products. To provide sufficient extraction they operate 18 LEV units, controlling dust and fumes at source, on lines such as the glue line, edge bander and engineer welding.

The Dust Collectors are in place not only to ensure the protection of their team members’ health but to remain compliant with HSE and COSHH regulations.

Regulatory testing of these systems is required to be carried out by accredited engineers, providing thorough reporting and documentation.

For convenience and to experience a seamless service, Lambson also required the LEV test supplier to provide remedial work and maintenance support.

How DCE met Requirements

Dust Control Environmental’s P601 accredited Engineer undertook testing of the 18 LEV systems, over the course of 3 consecutive days. The comprehensive test results were supplied to Lambson via the DCE OneHub, document storage system.

A comprehensive action list was supplied outlining any remedial work required to maintain LEV compliance. From this a work quotation was raised and on acceptance the DCE engineer will return to complete the work.

Continual LEV support will be provided to Lambson Innovate with the implementation of a DCE Total Care service and maintenance package.

As part of the Exhibitor Spotlight series, a member of the MIY team recently caught up with us to explore what drives DCE, the milestones we’ve reached, and what’s next for our business.

1. In one sentence – what does DCE do best?

We design and deliver high performance, energy saving dust collectors for a wide variety of industries so they can protect the health of workers by controlling airborne hazardous substances, in turn keeping businesses HSE compliant.

2. What’s the driving mission or purpose behind DCE right now?

DCE’s drive is to help businesses meet regulatory compliance, enhancing workplace safety whilst helping them meet sustainability goals. All without compromising extraction performance.

A great example of how our products can achieve this is the Envirojet W-Series of dust extractors, a reverse-jet bag collector with smart E-Performance monitoring. It dynamically adjusts airflow to match demand, reducing energy use and costs by up to 50%, while providing measurable evidence of both energy efficiency and environmental impact.

3. What’s been the biggest milestone in the past 12 months?

We’ve achieved record growth and turnover, reflecting the strength of our industry expertise and strategic focus. By targeting sectors where dust and fume control is critical, we’ve unlocked significant opportunities and delivered real value to our clients.

This success has been supported by investment in advanced systems, precision machinery and skilled personnel. These improvements have streamlined operations and positioned us for continued innovation and expansion.

4. Any exciting developments on the horizon?

To support our growth, we’re expanding the footprint of our warehouse and manufacturing facilities, which will bring more operational capabilities in-house and enhance efficiency and control.

We’ll also be investing in our people. From training programmes to welcoming new apprentices, we are committed to nurturing talent at every level. By supporting the next generation of engineers, we are safeguarding the skills, knowledge and experience that will shape both the future of our business and the wider industry.

5. Something surprising or little-known about us…

This September, with 15 years trading under our belt, we proudly celebrating the production of our 1045th DCE Dust Collector. Not bad going for a business that started off with a vision, a handful of people and a modest unit in Morley!

Wakefield Business Hits 1,000 Milestone

Wakefield based dust extraction manufacturers, Dust Control Environmental, have celebrated a production milestone this September with their 1000^th dust extractor rolling out of the factory.

Established 15 years ago by owner/MD Martin Gill in an office/garage space in the West Yorkshire town of Morley, it was here that the first DCE prototype Dust Extraction Unit was developed.

As the business progressed and prototypes became sellable products, it soon became apparent that there was a lack of quality UK manufacturers. To guarantee reliability and business sustainability, some of the dust extractor manufacturing processes would have to be brought “in-house”. This dictated a move to larger premises.

Wakefield became the new DCE home in December 2015. Its useful 14000 square feet enabling aspects of production, such as powder coating, to be carried out on site. Not only did this improve manufacturing timescales but also up lifted product quality as well as becoming more cost effective and eco-friendly.

The move also provided the space to invest in more skilled people, expanding the original 5 employees over the years to the current team of 28. This expansion reflects a deepening expertise across design, engineering, installation, and customer service—solidifying DCE’s reputation as a trusted leader in the dust and fume extraction industry.

Jump forward to today and the fantastic milestone for DCE of the roll out of their 1000^th dust extractor. And the product - an Envirojet W-Series - is exemplary of the product development DCE’s undertaken and reflects the focus on supplying energy saving systems without compromising the quality of performance. Perfect for the modern world of industry where controlling operational costs and meeting environmental goals are a priority.

Centurion Blast Cleaning Enhances Air Quality Standards with DCE Typhoon Dust Collector

Introduction

Based in Leyland, Lancashire, Centurion Blast Cleaning provide specialist services in shot blasting of steel equipment, powder & industrial coatings, stripping and surface cleaning services.

With the welfare of their workforce and the highest standards of finish always paramount, Centurion were quick to act when they realised inefficiencies with the dust extraction system they currently ran in the shot blasting facilities.

To address the issue, Centurion approached Darren Shaw, Sales Engineer at Dust Control Environmental – renowned experts in dust control – for expert advice and a solution that would be tailored to their specific needs.

Project Requirements

The primary issue to address was the inadequate extraction of dust particulates generated during shot blasting. The current setup resulted in significant delays, as personnel had to wait for airborne dust to settle before safely entering the shot blasting booths.

To resolve this, a recalculation of air volume requirements was necessary to ensure the selection of a dust collector with sufficient capacity. Additionally, it was important to recognize that the extracted air did not meet cleanliness standards for safe recirculation back into the facility, and this had to be factored into the system design.

How DCE Met the Requirements

Dust Control Environmental conducted a comprehensive survey to recalculate air volumes in line with current operating procedures. Based on the revised data, the DCE design team engineered a Typhoon 12 and a Typhoon 8 dust extraction unit for shot blasting booths 1 and 2, respectively. Both systems are designed to deliver highly efficient dust extraction, enabling safe air recirculation within the facility.

The dust control solution also incorporates intake and extraction grilles for each booth, ensuring optimal airflow management.

Installation of the extraction units, associated accessories, grilles, and ducting was carried out and overseen by Dust Control Environmental’s contracts team. This included full LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) commissioning to ensure compliance and performance.

The award-nominated DCE Envirojet-W Series dust collector stands out as a groundbreaking solution for manufacturers. By controlling the running time and speed of fans, the system also extends the lifecycle of components, reducing maintenance and replacement activities.

The Envirojet W-Series has an insulated ‘Penthouse’ clean-air fan housing which not only reduces operational noise levels but also maintains ambient air temperature. This allows the recirculation of clean air back into facilities without lowering temperatures, leading to considerable savings on heating expenses.

DCE supply Dust Extraction to Leading Building Products Manufacturer

Introduction

Marshalls is a renowned UK manufacturer of landscape, building, and roofing products. Established in the 1890s in West Yorkshire, the company continues to lead the industry through decades of technical expertise and innovation across its product divisions.

Marshalls’ West Lane site in Southowram, West Yorkshire recently required a new dust extraction system for its welding workshop. Having built a long-standing relationship with Dust Control Environmental (DCE) Ltd., Marshalls once again partnered with them to deliver a tailored extraction solution.

Project Requirements

The West Lane site needed a high-performance dust extraction system capable of managing welding fumes, grinding dust and mild steel particulate matter.

The system had to effectively capture and remove hazardous airborne particles drawn directly from welding stations to protect the health of workers whilst maintaining a clean and compliant workspace. The allotted installation space, meant consideration needed to be given to the size of unit supplied.

How DCE Delivered the Solution

Following a detailed site survey, Dust Control Environmental proposed the DCE Typhoon 4 dust collector. This system includes:

A jet pulse cleaning mechanism for optimal filter maintenance
An integrated high-efficiency fan to control fine particulates and fumes
A conveniently located waste collection bin
Additional ducting installed as needed to ensure full coverage

The compact and modular build of the DCE Typhoon 4 allowed for seamless integration into the workshop’s limited footprint, maximising performance without compromising space.
The easily accessible collection bin ensures safe containment of extracted dust and debris, with hassle-free disposal via a wheeled waste container for improved operational efficiency.

Marshalls will also benefit from the future care of DCE P601 certified engineers and aftermarket team in the form of bespoke maintenance plan. Under the plan DCE will provide testing and maintenance to the Typhoon 4 dust extractor to ensure continuing performance and compliance.
